Common questions
The Cambridge IGCSE Spanish speaking exam (Paper 3, specification 0530) lasts approximately 10 minutes and has two sections. First, a Role play of approximately 2 minutes: you receive a candidate card at the start of your 10-minute preparation time and respond to 5 transactional tasks (for example, shopping, booking, asking for information). Each task is scored 0–2, giving 10 marks. Second, two Topic conversations of approximately 4 minutes each, on topic areas allocated at random by your teacher/examiner using a Cambridge randomisation grid. Both conversations are marked together on Communication (15 marks) and Quality of Language (15 marks), giving 30 marks. Total: 40 marks, worth 25% of your IGCSE. The exam is conducted by your teacher and moderated by Cambridge International.
Yes. The five topic areas in the Cambridge IGCSE Spanish specification are: Everyday activities; Personal and social life; The world around us; The world of work; and The international world. ScoreMySpeech generates role play scenarios and topic conversation questions drawn from across these areas so you build confidence in each one.
The topic areas for your two conversations are allocated at random using a Cambridge grid, so you cannot know which topics will come up in advance. The best preparation is to practise speaking spontaneously across all five topic areas so you can sustain a natural conversation in Spanish on any of them. Give opinions with reasons, develop your answers, and use a range of tenses — all of which are directly rewarded in the Quality of Language marking.
The role play is marked per task: 2 marks if the information is communicated accurately, 1 if it is partly communicated or ambiguous, 0 for no creditable response. Total: 10 marks. The two topic conversations are marked together on Communication (0–15 marks) and Quality of Language (0–15 marks). Total: 30 marks. Overall total: 40 marks, worth 25% of your IGCSE.
Cambridge IGCSE (0530) is internationally recognised and taken at schools worldwide, while GCSE is the standard UK qualification. The formats differ: Cambridge IGCSE has a role play (5 transactional tasks) and two topic conversations, with 10 minutes of preparation time. Cambridge IGCSE grades run A*–G rather than 9–1. ScoreMySpeech automatically applies the correct topic areas and format when you select your board.
