The Cambridge IGCSE French speaking exam (Paper 3, specification 0520) lasts approximately 10 minutes and has two sections. First, a Role play of approximately 2 minutes: the teacher/examiner gives you a candidate card at the start of your 10-minute preparation time, and you respond to 5 transactional tasks (for example, accomplishing a task, buying something, or obtaining a service). Each task is scored 0–2, giving 10 marks. Second, two Topic conversations of approximately 4 minutes each: the teacher/examiner asks you questions on two different topic areas, allocated using a Cambridge randomisation grid. Both conversations are marked together on Communication (15 marks) and Quality of Language (15 marks), giving 30 marks. Total: 40 marks, worth 25% of your IGCSE. The exam is conducted by your teacher and moderated by Cambridge International.

The two topic conversations are marked together on two criteria: Communication (0–15 marks — how confidently you respond, develop ideas and justify opinions) and Quality of Language (0–15 marks — range and accuracy of structures and vocabulary, pronunciation, fluency and intonation).
