What happens in this part of the exam?

  1. This is Task 2, after the Role-play. You can look through the passage during the 15-minute supervised preparation period, but you must not read it aloud during that time.
  2. Read the printed passage aloud clearly; do not paraphrase, translate or add your own sentences.
  3. Your teacher then asks four compulsory questions on the same topic. The questions are not available for you to prepare: practise responding without a script.

Helping at the neighbourhood library

Read your tier’s passage aloud, then practise the four topic questions with a partner. These questions are original practice, not the AQA compulsory questions.

Foundation practice passage

Original follow-up practice questions

  1. ¿Qué lugares te gustan en tu barrio?
  2. ¿Qué hiciste el sábado pasado?
  3. ¿Prefieres leer libros o usar el ordenador?
  4. ¿Cómo te gustaría ayudar en tu comunidad?

One language detail: The h in hermana is silent; ñ in mañana is a different sound from n. In biblioteca the c before a has a /k/ sound. Written accents such as sábados show stress.

Foundation approach

Make the message clear

Me gusta la biblioteca porque es tranquila.

Keep the five vowel sounds steady. In a follow-up, one clear opinion with porque is a useful start.

Higher upgrade

Add what the task needs

Use the printed punctuation to group the reading. Add a contrast in your answer only when it supports your view.

Common mistakes

A quick practice strategy

One focused rehearsal

  1. Choose one sentence and mark natural phrase breaks mentally.
  2. Read it aloud twice, improving one sound pattern rather than simply going faster.
  3. Have a partner ask a topic question without showing it to you.
  4. Answer from your own experience, then repeat with a different question.

This is a revision routine, not official exam preparation timing.
