What happens in this part of the exam?

  1. During supervised preparation, read the five tasks on your card and identify exactly what information each instruction requires.
  2. Your teacher-examiner takes the other role in the situation. Respond in the target language to communicate the requested information.
  3. Ask the question required by your card. The instructions make what you need to communicate clear; a memorised speech is not a substitute for completing them.

Original ScoreMySpeech practice task

Hiring bikes for an afternoon

You are at a bicycle-hire desk in Spain. Your teacher plays the assistant. Complete these five tasks in Spanish.

  1. Say how many bicycles you need.
  2. Say how long you want to hire them for.
  3. Say whether you want a helmet.
  4. Say why you enjoy cycling.
  5. Ask how much the hire costs.

Partner’s practice prompts

  1. ¿Cuántas bicicletas necesita?
  2. ¿Para cuánto tiempo?
  3. ¿Quiere un casco?
  4. ¿Por qué le gusta montar en bicicleta?

One language detail: Use montar en bicicleta, not a literal translation of ‘ride’. Cuánto cuesta agrees with the singular el alquiler.

Foundation / Higher support

These are concise ScoreMySpeech example responses, not official model answers or guaranteed marks. They demonstrate selected requests or questions, not a complete answer to all five prompts. Follow the demands of your actual stimulus.

Foundation approach

Make the message clear

Necesito dos bicicletas para una hora. ¿Cuánto cuesta el alquiler?

Say the number and length of hire distinctly. Finish with the cost question rather than waiting for another prompt.

Higher upgrade

Add what the task needs

Necesito dos bicicletas para toda la tarde porque queremos visitar la costa. ¿Cuánto cuesta el alquiler?

A relevant reason can clarify your request, but do not lose the number, duration or required question.

Common mistakes

A quick practice strategy

One focused rehearsal

  1. Take 20 seconds to identify the information in each instruction.
  2. Say each response aloud, including your question; do not write a full script.
  3. Listen back once and check that every instruction was completed.
  4. Repeat, improving one unclear word or question.

This is a revision routine, not official exam preparation timing.

Official specification

Exam information checked against the current AQA GCSE Spanish 8692 specification (first teaching September 2024; first examinations 2026 and beyond). Last reviewed: October 2026. Exam boards may update guidance; follow your school’s instructions too.

Reading an example is a start. The speaking exam is about what you can actually say. Record your response in the app, receive practice feedback, then repeat and improve for your selected exam board. Feedback is not an official mark or grade prediction.
