What happens in this part of the exam?

  1. This is Task 2, after the Role-play. You can look through the passage during the 15-minute supervised preparation period, but you must not read it aloud during that time.
  2. Read the printed passage aloud clearly; do not paraphrase, translate or add your own sentences.
  3. Your teacher then asks four compulsory questions on the same topic. The questions are not available for you to prepare: practise responding without a script.

A new lunchtime club

Read the passage for your tier aloud. Then ask a partner to choose the order of the four practice questions below. Do not script the follow-up answers.

Foundation practice passage

Original follow-up practice questions

  1. Qu’est-ce que tu aimes faire pendant la pause de midi ?
  2. Quel instrument voudrais-tu apprendre ?
  3. Qu’est-ce que tu as fait avec tes amis récemment ?
  4. Pourquoi les clubs sont-ils utiles au collège ?

One language detail: In musique, qu represents /k/. The on in chansons is a nasal vowel, not an English ‘on’. The final s of amis is normally silent, but liaison can occur before a following vowel in some phrases.

Foundation / Higher support

These are concise ScoreMySpeech example responses, not official model answers or guaranteed marks. Follow the demands of your actual stimulus.

Foundation approach

Make the message clear

À midi, j’aime écouter de la musique avec mes amis.

Read each sentence as a phrase, then answer the question with one clear idea. Practise retrieving the verb j’aime without reading the passage.

Higher upgrade

Add what the task needs

À midi, j’aime écouter de la musique avec mes amis parce que cela m’aide à me détendre avant les cours de l’après-midi.

Keep the reading faithful to the printed words. In the conversation, develop a relevant reason; never insert your own extra words into the passage.

Common mistakes

A quick practice strategy

One focused rehearsal

  1. Choose one sentence and mark natural phrase breaks mentally.
  2. Read it aloud twice, improving one sound pattern rather than simply going faster.
  3. Have a partner ask a topic question without showing it to you.
  4. Answer from your own experience, then repeat with a different question.

This is a revision routine, not official exam preparation timing.

Exam information checked against the current AQA GCSE French 8652 specification (first teaching September 2024; first examinations 2026 and beyond). Last reviewed: October 2026. Exam boards may update guidance; follow your school’s instructions too.

Reading an example is a start. The speaking exam is about what you can actually say. Record your response in the app, receive practice feedback, then repeat and improve for your selected exam board. Feedback is not an official mark or grade prediction.
