What happens in this part of the exam?

  1. During supervised preparation, read the five tasks on your card and identify exactly what information each instruction requires.
  2. Your teacher-examiner takes the other role in the situation. Respond in the target language to communicate the requested information.
  3. Ask the question required by your card. The instructions make what you need to communicate clear; a memorised speech is not a substitute for completing them.

Original ScoreMySpeech practice task

A snack before the museum visit

You are in a café near a museum in France. Your teacher plays the café assistant. Complete these five clear tasks in French.

  1. Say which drink you would like.
  2. Say what you would like to eat.
  3. Say whether you want to sit inside or outside.
  4. Say what you think of the café, with a reason.
  5. Ask what time the café closes.

Partner’s practice prompts

  1. Qu’est-ce que vous voulez boire ?
  2. Vous voulez manger quelque chose ?
  3. Vous préférez une table à l’intérieur ou à l’extérieur ?
  4. Que pensez-vous de notre café ?

One language detail: Use je voudrais for a polite request. À quelle heure… ? asks for a time; combien… ? asks how much.

Foundation / Higher support

These are concise ScoreMySpeech example responses, not official model answers or guaranteed marks. They demonstrate selected requests or questions, not a complete answer to all five prompts. Follow the demands of your actual stimulus.

Foundation approach

Make the message clear

Je voudrais un jus d’orange, s’il vous plaît. À quelle heure fermez-vous ?

Make the drink request clear. Practise the closing-time question separately so that you do not forget to ask it.

Higher upgrade

Add what the task needs

Je voudrais un jus d’orange et un sandwich au fromage, s’il vous plaît. À quelle heure fermez-vous cet après-midi ?

Add a precise detail if it helps the transaction. A Higher role-play still rewards completing the instruction, not a long speech.

Common mistakes

A quick practice strategy

One focused rehearsal

  1. Take 20 seconds to identify the information in each instruction.
  2. Say each response aloud, including your question; do not write a full script.
  3. Listen back once and check that every instruction was completed.
  4. Repeat, improving one unclear word or question.

This is a revision routine, not official exam preparation timing.
