What happens in this part of the exam?

  1. The Read aloud comes first; the Role play follows it, before the Picture task with conversation.
  2. Read your allocated role-play instructions during preparation and identify the practical information you must communicate.
  3. Your teacher-examiner plays the other person. Complete five prompts and ask the questions required: one at Foundation, two at Higher. At Higher, you also respond to one question using a future timeframe.
  4. Use the setting on your actual card. Practice scenarios below are original exercises, not Pearson stimuli or a promise of what you will be allocated.

Original ScoreMySpeech practice task

Buying tickets at a cinema

Transactional practice in a cinema setting: your teacher plays the ticket assistant. Work through these requests in French. For Higher, replace the seating preference with a question about where to sit and answer the future-timeframe drinks prompt.

  1. Say which film you want to see.
  2. Say how many tickets you need.
  3. Ask what time the film starts.
  4. Say that you prefer seats at the back. Higher: ask whether seats at the back are available.
  5. Say whether you would like a drink. Higher: say what you are going to drink during the film.

Partner’s practice prompts

Foundation

  1. Quel film voulez-vous voir ?
  2. Combien de billets voulez-vous ?
  3. Où préférez-vous vous asseoir ?
  4. Voulez-vous une boisson ?

Higher

  1. Quel film voulez-vous voir ?
  2. Combien de billets voulez-vous ?
  3. Qu’allez-vous boire pendant le film ?

One language detail: Billet means a ticket; place can mean a seat. Au fond de la salle means at the back of the room.

Foundation / Higher support

These are concise ScoreMySpeech example responses, not official model answers or guaranteed marks. They demonstrate selected requests or questions, not a complete answer to all five prompts. Follow the demands of your actual stimulus.

Foundation approach

Make the message clear

Je voudrais deux billets pour le film d’aventure. À quelle heure commence le film ?

Focus on a successful ticket purchase and one clear question. Practise the number deux carefully.

Higher upgrade

Add what the task needs

À quelle heure commence le film ? Est-ce qu’il reste des places au fond de la salle ?

Rehearse two different question forms without turning the transaction into a general opinion about cinema.

Common mistakes

A quick practice strategy

One focused rehearsal

  1. Underline mentally what must be requested or supplied.
  2. Say each request and question without writing a speech.
  3. Have a partner reply as the assistant; stay in the transaction.
  4. Repeat, checking that the transaction would actually work.

This is a revision routine, not official exam preparation timing.
