The Pearson Edexcel GCSE French speaking exam (1FR1, first assessed 2026) has three tasks in order: Read aloud with a short unprepared interaction (12 marks); transactional Role play (10 marks); Picture task (12 marks), then conversation (16 marks). Select your thematic context in advance from choices generated according to Pearson's process. On the allocated stimulus, choose one of two pictures, describe it, answer two compulsory questions, then continue into an unprepared conversation on the same thematic context.
The exam counts for 25% of your overall GCSE grade (50 marks). It lasts 7–9 minutes at Foundation and 10–12 minutes at Higher, with 15 minutes of preparation. Your teacher conducts the test; the recording is marked by Pearson.
